What is Internet cookies?
An Internet cookie also called web cookie, browser cookie, HTTP cookie, tracking cookie, or simply cookie. Cookies are encrypted text files, located in browser (Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft edge) directories. They are used by web developers to help the user navigate their websites efficiently.
Cookies can be used for store information about a user's browsing preferences and history, both on a specific site.
When cookies are created?
Cookies are created when a user’s browser loads a particular website. The particular website sends information to the browser which creates a text file. When the user goes back to the same website, the browser sends this text file to the website’s server.
Types of cookies
Session cookies
Session cookies are also called as temporary cookies because it works when you are on the website. Once the web browser is closed, the cookies are deleted. Session cookies only retain information about the user’s activities. These are commonly used on e-commerce websites or shopping websites.
Permanent cookies
Permanent cookies are opposite to session cookies because it worked even after the web browser is closed. For example, a user visited a website that required login details, if you log in the website remember login details with the help of cookies. So web users don’t need to re-enter them every time. These cookies are stored in your hard disk for a long period of time. The cookie’s timeline will vary depending on the expiration date.
Third-party cookies
Third-party cookies are mainly used for tracking and online-advertising purposes. They collect data based on your online behavior. When you visit a particular website, third-part cookies collect or tracking your age, interests, location, and search trends, these cookies collect information so that marketers can provide you with custom advertisements.
